6 Ways To Make Money With Your Blog (Even If You’re A Beginner)

Want to use your blog to make money online?

Whether you want to subsidize your Starbucks addiction, go from full-time to part-time at your day job, or make a living blogging, there are a number of ways to go about it.

You might find that some of these methods work better for you than others. It all comes down testing different approaches and choosing the right one(s) for you.

1. Affiliate products

Find and promote a useful affiliate product or service that’s related to your blogging topic.

For example: If your blog is about relationships, you could promote a membership to an online dating site.  I don’t recommend promoting affiliate products that you’ve never used. Your readers trust you to guide them in the right direction, and it’s hard to honestly do that with a product or service that you don’t have any experience with.

Ask your affiliate manager if you can have a discount copy of the product or service you will be promoting. Sometimes they will even let you buy the product or service using your own affiliate link so you get the commission on your purchase, which in the end works out just like a rebate.

2. Write Reviews

There are many companies out there that will pay you to build awareness of their brand by reviewing their products and sharing your opinions with your readers. The key to writing a good review is to be honest (even if you find out the products isn’t so great).

Your readers will use your experience to decide whether or not they’ll give the product you’re reviewing a chance, so be open and unbiased. If you’re unable to find paid review opportunities, you can also use reviews to sell your affiliate product.

3. Google Adsense

You won’t make good money from running Google ads on your blog unless you get A LOT of traffic. The one exception to this is if you’ve picked a niche with a high cost per click, in which case you can make more money with fewer clicks.

Name each ad clearly so you can track each one’s performance and adjust your ad placement if necessary. It’s also a good idea to not overwhelm your blog with ads. Your content should be the primary focus of your blog, and having too many ads on your site can scare a lot of readers away.

4. Private Advertising

This is a more advanced method that can work very well if you have a large or quickly growing readership.  The best way to get started is to contact small businesses that are related to what you’re blogging about and see if they’d be interested in buying ad space on your blog.

5. Sell your own products

If you’re the crafty type you can use your blog to sell handmade products, or if you’re a programmer you can use it to sell an app or WordPress plugin that will help your readers. Don’t sell yourself short, if the products you make are unique or one of a kind, people may be willing to pay more for them than you’d think.

If your blog is more about providing information, you can always write a book, ebook, manifesto, or other supremely useful guide that builds on information on your blog and will help your readers solve a pressing issue.

6. Sell a service

If people can use your expertise to improve their business or personal lives, you can provide in-person or online consultation services. This can come in the form of public speaking, individualized reviews or critiques, Skype meetings, or even phone calls.
